How to Wear the Pantone Color of 2023–Viva Magenta

Viva Magenta. It's a vibrant statement color, but how do you wear a color with such boldness? Here's how we take inspiration from the 2023 color of the year.

How to wear It

Bold.

Every year, Pantone, decides on a color of the year and this year, it’s Viva Magenta. As our world tries to resume to a semblance of normalcy, our fashion choice says, “let’s live a little.” Viva Magenta-in our opinion is a blend of red, berry and pink-makes a statement. Actress Rose Byrne wore a Viva Magenta-esque Jill Stuart top with a leather plum skirt. Both colors are in a similar section of the color wheel, giving Byrne a mono-chromatic look.

Vibrant.

When you wear Viva Magenta, it must be the focal point of your look. Viva Magenta is certainly eye-catching, so embrace it–and don’t over do it. We’d pair AJE’s tied organza dress with a simple black or metallic toned stiletto and a gold or silver bracelet cuff. Jenny Yoo’s off-shoulder Issa Velvet Dress should likewise be styled minimally. Because off-shoulder straps, opt to forgo a necklace to emphasize the neckline and silhouette.

Fearless.

Viva Magenta colored footwear can be paired with complementary neutral colors that show it off. Draper James and Sam Edelman both show a similar color done in velvet that enhance the warmth and romantic hue of that color. We’d pair these heels with a black and white patterned coat, much like All Saint’s Houndstooth Oversized Coat. For a casual look, Adidas’ NMD-R1 sneakers would pair perfectly with an all black athleisure look.

How to Accessorize It

Color me bold

Accessorizing with Viva Magenta, likewise needs to be intentional with the rosy hue being the main event. A scarf, red lip, or statement purse will pair with a simple back and white coat or a lbd (little black dress) and can work for a casual trip to the store or a girl’s night out. Though this year’s color is certainly eye-catching, there’s no need to shy away from it. You can still find a way to embody your personality and comfortability, and maybe a hint of daring, donning Viva Magenta.
